(December 4, 2008)- Redmellon Real Estate is pleased to announce their newest construction project located at 3501 St. Claude Avenue in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans. This 36-unit apartment building is the latest addition to the multi-million dollar revitalization of the St. Claude Avenue corridor devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
The apartments are exclusively for those 62 years of age or older on fixed or low income. The apartment building was designed to accommodate the needs of the aging and is wheelchair and handicap accessible. Thermostats are set lower on the walls, bathrooms are equipped with safety rails and benches in the showers and kitchens are furnished with appliances that are easily accessible for those with special needs.
An in-house YMCA-run daycare center is located on the ground level of the apartment building. Residents of the building have first priority to this one-of-a-kind daycare facility. Additionally, a community room is located on 2nd floor of the building offering GED programs, language classes and a library.
This project was funded in part with tax credits made available through the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency (LHFA). With completion of the apartment complex, Redmellon Real Estate continues to demonstrate success utilizing this government program and in offering affordable housing to low income residents of New Orleans.
Redmellon Real Estate was founded in 2000 by New Orleanian, Neal Morris. A graduate of Tulane University, Morris has developed multi-family real estate in Louisiana, Florida and Georgia. In 2007, Morris was awarded the prestigious Louisiana Housing Finance Agency Innovation Award.
